Truelove' Explores Truth, Love and Endings
Briefly

Truelove, streaming on Acorn, is a six-episode ensemble drama that tackles heavy themes of assisted suicide, friendships, and regret. Following a group of old friends who make a pact to help each other die with dignity, the show realistically portrays their struggles with this promise after a terminal diagnosis strikes one of them. When a young police officer investigates a series of suspicious deaths, the narrative shifts towards a darker mystery, shifting the tone while illuminating the pressures of facing mortality. Despite its tonal shifts, the show remains a compelling exploration of deep emotional bonds even in the face of inevitable death.
When the first terminal diagnosis lands, the pals initially can't bring themselves to help their compatriot die. But then he tries to hang himself, which he survives.
If life is messy, death is doubly so, and confronting mortality sure has a way of changing one's priorities.
Truelove is a superb and knotty domestic drama that explores the difficult themes of friendship and mortality.
Some of the needle drops here are perfect and lovely, while others are so on-the-nose they make your teeth ring.
