What Is the Average Age Gap in Relationships Worldwide?
"For example, it has been found that the older people get, the more they prefer to have a younger partner if they start a new relationship. Interestingly, this effect is stronger in men than in women. Moreover, it has also been found that on average, the older partner in an age gap relationship is happier than the younger partner. This effect was especially pronounced when the older partner was a man."
"The key finding of the study was that all around the world, men were on average older than their wives or non-married female partners. The worldwide average age gap was about 4.2 years. However, there were strong regional differences in the data. People living in North America (men on average 2.2 years older than their female partners) and Europe (men on average 2.7 years older than their female partners) had rather low age gaps in their relationships."
Data from 130 countries show that men are on average 4.2 years older than their female partners worldwide. Age gaps vary substantially across regions: North America averages 2.2 years, Europe 2.7 years, Latin America and the Caribbean 3.6 years, and Asian/Pacific countries about 4 years. Older people tend to prefer younger partners when entering new relationships, with this preference increasing with age and being stronger in men than in women. In age-gap relationships the older partner is on average happier than the younger partner, especially when the older partner is male.
