Post-pandemic, full-time remote work in the Bay Area has plummeted to 11% from 32%, whereas hybrid work has surged to 63%. Most employees prefer working in the office during mid-week days. This reflects a cultural shift back to in-person engagements. With over 46% of employees using transit at least occasionally to reach their workplaces, traffic is returning to pre-pandemic levels on in-office days, indicating a significant change in commuting patterns founded on new work preferences.
"While hybrid work has become the new norm, there continues to be a shift back to in-person work," said Jim Wunderman, president of the Bay Area Council.
"Hybrid work ... has become a dominant model in the post-pandemic world," said the Bay Area Council, "but the average number of days workers are doing their work from home has decreased from almost three per week in 2021 to two in 2025."
