A man who broke his leg while liloing down the Wollangambe River in New South Wales experienced a fortunate rescue by SES volunteers. They were on a training exercise nearby when they found him clinging to the riverbank. The New South Wales State Emergency Service's Bush Search and Rescue (BSAR) team, comprised of skilled outdoorsmen, specializes in navigating challenging terrain to locate missing individuals. Their preparation and training are crucial in effectively responding to emergency situations in remote areas, underscoring the importance of their work in the bush.
"What are the chances? says Paul Campbell-Allen, BSAR's commander, who remembers the call coming through on the radio, with the prefix no duff this is not part of the exercise."
"The police are trying to drag in all this information about where they might've gone, Campbell-Allen says. This includes sightings, location of their car, messages they've sent, photos they've posted, their fitness levels, their state of mind and lost person behavioural data."
