Thousands of CIE retirees who endured 'hardship' set for pension increases of up to 5pc
Briefly

Workers at the CIÉ Group will soon vote on sustainability proposals aimed at improving pension benefits for thousands of pensioners who have not seen an increase in 17 years. The proposed increases will affect pensioners based on their retirement date, providing up to a 5% increase for those who retired before the end of 2020. Importantly, there will be no alterations to existing pensions for current employees, and a supportive government stance on maintaining benefits is included in the proposal.
Labour Party spokesperson Ciarán Ahern emphasized that this announcement reflects a significant breakthrough for over 2,600 CIE pensioners who have faced stagnant benefits for 17 years.
The proposal document outlines increases for pensioners based on retirement dates, ensuring that all current employees’ pension entitlements remain unchanged.
