Miller later quoted the post by saying Democrats made history in Texas by nominating their first transgender senate candidate. The DNC then replied with a personal profanity-laden insult. Talarico, a progressive, faces Republican Ken Paxton in a contentious race. Paxton’s win followed President Donald Trump’s endorsement over incumbent Senator John Cornyn. Republicans have attacked Talarico’s transgender-related statements, including claims about multiple genders and comments about God being non-binary, which he later said were meant to be provocative.
