Kim Cadzow from EF Education-Oatly won two titles at the Cycling New Zealand Road National Championships, including the elite women’s time trial and the combined elite and under-23 road race. In the road race, Cadzow demonstrated a strong performance, especially on the uphill climb, finishing ahead of Niamh Fisher-Black and Kate McCarthy. Despite earlier struggles this season, Cadzow expressed disbelief at her win. Rhylee Akeroyd took the under-23 title, finishing 11th overall, excited about her achievement. Overall, Cadzow's victories highlight resilience and teamwork in her recent cycling journey.
"Winning two titles has not really sunk in yet. It is pretty incredible. I had a bit of a hard time in the summer so I didn't expect to come away with this one this time."
"My teammate Henry (Henrietta Christie) was amazing all day, attacking, putting everyone in the box in the right moment and gave me a lot of confidence and just told me to go," said Cadzow.
Rhylee Akeroyd claimed the under 23 title after coming over the line 11th in the combined race. 'It feels amazing. It's what I came here to do,' said Akeroyd.
Last year's winner, Ella Wyllie (Liv-AlUla-Jayco) came over the Timaru finish line in fourth, 31 seconds back from Cadzow.
