In the wake of the Ukraine war, many Western companies exited the Russian market. As discussions about their potential return arise, Russian officials, such as Anton Alikhanov, stress that Moscow is not eager for their re-entry and emphasizes supporting local brands instead. Nearly 475 foreign companies have left, including major names like McDonald's and Shell. Despite the context of potential reconciliation from Western leaders, Russia's leadership, including Denis Manturov, is focusing on prioritizing domestic businesses rather than accommodating foreign interests.
"We are not waiting for anyone with open arms. There will be a price to pay for past decisions," Anton Alikhanov, the Russian industry and trade minister.
"It is a reasonable assumption that some companies will seek to return to Russia following a comprehensive settlement to end the war," Andrew Staples, principal of GeoPol Asia.
