Ret. Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges asserts that NATO must learn from Ukraine, not the other way around. He emphasizes that most NATO armies struggle to meet Ukraine's high combat effectiveness standards. Hodges critiques NATO's communication shortcomings and cohesion issues among member forces. He believes that instead of trying to train Ukraine, NATO should seek guidance from Ukrainian forces, particularly citing successes in naval operations and integrated air defense. The general suggests that NATO's training programs have gaps that fail to address the realities of modern warfare, including the effective use of drone technology.
Well, actually, it's not about meeting Western standards. Most NATO armies could not meet Ukrainian standards, in terms of actual combat effectiveness.
We should be begging them to help us learn how to do what they're doing.
We still cannot communicate securely with British or German units. So I think the Ukrainians kind of look down their noses at us a little bit.
NATO has trained roughly 192,000 Ukrainian personnel... parts of that training were criticized for gaps between what they were taught and the battlefield's realities.
