Russia releases Greek-owned oil tanker after detention near Estonia
Briefly

Russia has released the Greek-owned oil tanker Green Admire after seizing it in Russian waters while it was sailing from Estonia to Rotterdam. The incident, according to Estonia's Foreign Minister, is likely retaliation for Estonia's navy's efforts to curb Russia's shadow fleet, which illegally transports oil. This unpredictable behavior by Moscow has prompted Estonia to change its maritime traffic routes to enhance security. The European Union has sanctions targeting vessels within Russia's shadow fleet, further complicating maritime relations in the region.
"The incident shows that Russia continues to behave unpredictably," Tsahkna said on Sunday, referring to Moscow's detention of the Green Admire. "I have also informed our allies of the event."
Estonia will redirect marine traffic to and from Sillamäe exclusively through Estonian territorial waters, the foreign ministry said.
