Russia's artillery advantage over Ukraine has decreased to 1.5 rounds for every shell fired by Ukraine, down from as high as 15 to 1 earlier in the invasion.
The unnamed Western officials cited a "wide variety of factors" behind the drop in Russia's artillery advantage, including production constraints and damage to ammunition depots from drone strikes.
Despite the decline in artillery shells, Russia is compensating by increasing its use of glide bombs, which are cheap and highly destructive, creating a new challenge for Ukraine.
Ukraine has begun producing its own glide bombs using Western-supplied ordnance, aiming to counter the Russian aerial bombardment and enhance its strike capabilities.
