Mr. Harris addressed the importance of including Ukraine in peace negotiations as the conflict with Russia persists. He reaffirmed Ireland's commitment to supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and pursuing a fair peace settlement. Ahead of the Munich Security Conference, he recognized shifting global security dynamics, highlighting Ireland's military neutrality while stressing the need for active involvement in finding solutions. Additionally, he pointed to the pressing situation in Gaza, advocating for humanitarian aid and a two-state resolution for Israel and Palestine as a necessary step toward stability.
Ireland's commitment to a values-based foreign policy and to a policy of military neutrality does not insulate us from the impacts of a rapidly changing and volatile international security environment.
We remain committed to working to ensure a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
At a critical moment for the ceasefire and hostage release deal, we need to see further release of hostages, the continuation of much-needed humanitarian aid into Gaza.
The only just and sustainable peaceful solution, for both Palestinians and Israelis, is a two-state solution.
