The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has announced 100 new sanctions against Russia as part of efforts to escalate pressure on Vladimir Putin amid the Ukraine conflict. These sanctions target military supply chains, specifically weaponry used in attacks against civilians. Foreign Secretary David Lammy highlighted Putin's aggressive tactics, urging for an immediate ceasefire. The EU is also extending its sanctions, with a focus on hybrid threats, as new packages are announced in response to Russia's continued actions against Ukraine.
The new sanctions will directly target supply chains of weaponry such as the Iskander missile systems which are being used to target civilian areas in what has been described as a 'callous disregard for life.'
In addition, today's measures will strike at the heart of Putin's efforts to get around our sanctions and help block his failing attempts to reconnect to the international economy.
