Kevin Sabo's solo exhibition Louche marks his debut in the UK, showcasing his distinctive vibrant style that humorously critiques traditional gender roles. Born in 1992 in Virginia, Sabo's works merge drag culture with corporate elements, as he spotlighted the challenges faced by women and queer individuals in contemporary society. His elongated male figures mock traditional masculinity, while his confident female characters celebrate joy and resilience. Through the juxtaposition of sophistication and playfulness, Sabo emphasizes deeper societal issues, making his art a reflection of both humor and critique.
The way I treat my male and 'female' characters helps crystallise the feelings I have about these figures within the larger political and social dynamics we're seeing both in the U.S. and internationally.
My work exists in the space between sophistication and playfulness; carefree and effortless on the surface, yet carrying a subtle, low-vibrational hum of something impending.
