The FDA has recalled non-organic cucumbers from Bedner Growers, Inc. linked to a growing salmonella outbreak impacting 45 individuals in 18 states. Target was implicated in this issue, announcing a recall on over 40 products, including sushi and chicken salad items, due to the cucumbers purchased between May 7-21. Despite recalling less product, Walmart has only recalled one cucumber item. The situation amplifies Target's challenges, following a harsh year marked by significant stock and income declines, and adds to previous cucumber recall events due to salmonella.
This recall comes after a particularly terrible year for Target, facing boycotts and tariffs, with stock dropping 40% and operating income falling 38%.
The outbreak has now affected 45 people across 18 states, with 16 hospitalizations noted and a rapid surge reported within just three days.
