Peninsula Dance Fest ready to unleash a global celebration
Briefly

Peninsula International Dance Festival runs July 19-20 at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center, featuring over 200 artists from 21 dance companies. The festival was conceived in 2022 to revive the performing arts after the pandemic's impact. Artistic director Gregory Amato aimed to showcase the Bay Area's cultural diversity, programming international artists and styles, including Indian classical dance and Filipino traditions. The event will also honor the indigenous Ramaytush Ohlone people with a benediction, emphasizing cultural connection and celebration.
"With the pandemic, there was no theater, dance or music performances, and coming back there were all the limitations. We just didn't know if the audience was going to come back." - Gregory Amato
"The cultural diversity we have is so much more than the Ethnic Dance Festival. In 20 square miles we have some of the best cultural companies on the planet." - Gregory Amato
Saturday's program spans four continents - from the dramatic classical Indian tales of Chitresh Das Dance, a leading exponent of the Kathak tradition, to the Parangal Dance Company, which explores an array of styles from across the Philippines.
Performances will include a benediction from the Association of Ramaytush Ohlone, the indigenous people of the Peninsula.
