A mother in California was arrested after her 15-year-old son was discovered bound and injured, running in a grocery store. Reports indicated he had numerous bruises and potentially had been bound at the ankles. Upon investigating, police found unsanitary living conditions in the family home, with evidence of neglect. The authorities also discovered the woman's 12-year-old daughter and subsequently took both children into protective custody. Three adults were arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect.
"He had 75 to 100, maybe more, bruises ... several bruises all over his body," the supermarket's senior head clerk, Rebecca Renard, told KCRA.
"The living conditions were, you know, feces and urine throughout the house," Jeff Godfrey with the Ceres Police Department told KCRA.
Three adults were arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect, officials said.
The children were placed under Child Protective Services' care, officials said.
