Meet Sunny and Gizmo, Big Bear's newest bald eagle residents
Briefly

Friends of Big Bear Valley has announced that the two new eaglets of the famous bald eagle couple Jackie and Shadow will be named Sunny and Gizmo. The names emerged from a highly engaging contest that attracted over 54,000 entries, eventually narrowed down to 30 finalists. Students from Bear Elementary School had the deciding vote, choosing the final names. Sadly, a third eaglet that hatched alongside them did not survive a recent snowstorm and was posthumously named Misty in honor of a beloved volunteer.
Friends of Big Bear Valley shared the exciting news of the names for the new bald eagle chicks: Sunny and Gizmo, chosen through a community naming contest.
The naming contest garnered over 54,000 entries, reflecting community engagement and excitement around the eaglets, who are offspring of the popular bald eagle couple Jackie and Shadow.
Though Sunny and Gizmo are celebrated, the third eaglet named Misty tragically did not survive a snowstorm, reminding us of the challenges wildlife face.
The nonprofit thanked participants and emphasized the importance of community in the naming process, creating a sense of connection to the natural world in Big Bear Valley.
