Mary Fong Lau, 80, was sentenced to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service after causing a fatal car crash in San Francisco. The crash killed Diego Cardoso de Oliveira, his son Joaquim, and Matilde Moncada Ramos Pinto, along with her infant son Caue. Lau was driving at high speeds when she hit a bus shelter. Despite her remorse and personal tragedy, the court did not impose jail time, leading to public outcry for harsher consequences.
