BART spokesperson Jim Allison clarified that an unauthorized person went onto the tracks as a train approached, resulting in a fatal accident.
Civic Center Station was briefly closed following the incident but has since reopened, with operations now on a single track and systemwide delays ongoing.
Following the incident, Green and Red line services were temporarily suspended. However, services were restored shortly after, as confirmed in a tweet from BART at 10:32 am.
