"Police in Cranston, Rhode Island identified the driver who allegedly hit the couple as Demitri Sousa, 28. Sousa allegedly shot and killed a man in Rhode Island nearly four hours before the crash, Cranston police said."

Carolyn Carcasi, 54, and James Carcasi, 53, of Bristol, Rhode Island, were killed in a collision at the intersection of Route 136 and Route 6 in Swansea on February 27. The couple's Subaru Ascent was struck by an Infiniti driven by 28-year-old Demitri Sousa, resulting in catastrophic damage and fire. Both occupants of the Subaru were pronounced dead at the scene. Sousa had allegedly committed a homicide in Rhode Island approximately four hours before the crash. He was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive. Sousa remains in police custody pending medical clearance.
