A private fireworks show in San Francisco surprised residents and sparked frustration, particularly among dog owners in North Beach and the Embarcadero. The event, lasting 12 minutes, was part of the 50th anniversary celebration for Computers and Structures, Inc. Despite being visually spectacular, the lack of advance notice about the display upset many locals who found it disruptive. The Port of SF acknowledged the need for improved communication regarding such events, especially to prevent public disturbance, but balanced this against the desire to avoid unnecessary gatherings that require city resources.
"This display was commensurate in dollars to a large public display that would be seen perhaps on New Year's in San Francisco, except instead of being performed in 20 minutes, it was performed in just over 12 min."
"I don't like the fact that a private individual can just have something that's so disruptive," said nearby resident Frank Taylor. "I mean, everybody here has a dog. My dog was freaking out."
