David Crook, Mission District artist and astrologer, dies at 69
Briefly

David Crook ran a garage studio at 3358 23rd Street where he sold artwork and offered astrology consultations, welcoming tourists and neighbors. A large pink Cadillac once stood outside the studio. He lived on 23rd Street for decades, cultivated deep friendships, and greeted people playfully. A small garden with a bright red poinsettia became a local icon each Christmas. Crook created art from found objects such as scrap wood, canvas, and cut-up shoes. As a boy he watched science fiction including Doc Savage and Star Trek, which influenced his interest in the stars. Crook died in his sleep on Aug. 3 at age 69.
My favorite memories were when he would walk by and drop a, 'how's your love life going?' And he would then just laugh and walk away,
He loved showing off his place and the artwork on the walls and the garden in the back and introducing new people to each other.
You could always pop in, and you knew you're going to enjoy yourself. He was just so easy to be with.
Every year we'd say,'Okay, David's still with us,'
