More than 20,000 still without power after massive San Francisco blackout
""The damage from the fire in our substation was significant and extensive and the repairs and safe restoration will be complex,""
""We have mobilized additional engineers and electricians.""
""The most frequent calls we had last night due to the power outages was people stuck in elevators and fire alarms going off," he said. "Those were the bulk of a lot of the calls we had. Other than that, there's nothing large going on right now.""
About 110,000 PG&E customers in San Francisco have had power restored after a major Saturday outage caused by a fire inside a PG&E substation. Roughly 21,000 customers remain without power, concentrated in Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, the Richmond District and small downtown areas. The fire began about 2:15 p.m. and was under control by 4:24 p.m. PG&E said the substation damage was significant and that repairs and safe restoration will be complex, and mobilized additional engineers and electricians without giving a full restoration timeframe. San Francisco officials warned against indoor use of gas stoves, grills and generators and urged travel caution; most emergency calls involved people stuck in elevators and fire alarms.
