Following a devastating earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand, Bay Area community organizations and businesses are stepping up to assist victims. One local restaurant, Osha Thai, is collaborating with others to facilitate fundraising efforts, while the Myanmar Cultural and Community Center is organizing a fundraiser despite challenges posed by the political situation in Burma. They highlight that due to ongoing civil unrest, direct aid like clothing and food cannot be accepted, and funds will be directed towards the most affected regions, including Mandalay.
"Everything fell off. They felt serious shaking during the earthquake," said Win.
"The condition right now is really horrible. It's like a disaster zone," said Jason Hu with the Myanmar Cultural and Community Center.
"We cannot accept clothing or food because of the political situation in Burma. The junta, the military government block all the roadways," said Hu.
"A lot of customers come in and ask about it," said Buasuk.
