Five World Cup group stage matches are scheduled at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, but Bay Area fans are not receiving transit benefits comparable to other host cities. Philadelphia will provide free rides home on SEPTA Metro, and New Jersey and New York have subsidized transit costs for stadium trips. Houston is building a 14-mile transit loop using World Cup sponsor support. In the Bay Area, major sponsor support has taken a different form: Airbnb donated money to fund youth soccer pitches.
