A one-alarm fire occurred last Friday in the Richmond District, resulting in the death of 91-year-old Albert Shew. His wife, Barbara, was not at home during the incident. Albert's use of a wheelchair likely hindered his ability to evacuate. Neighbors had little information about the couple, who frequented a local senior center. The fire was reported at 2:11 p.m., and despite quick response from Fire Station 14, they could not save Albert. The kitchen suffered significant damage, while nearby buildings were also affected but not severely.
Barbara Shew stood across the street from the home she and her husband had lived in for the last 50 years. "Everything is gone," she said in Mandarin.
Last Friday, a one-alarm fire broke out here, killing Shew's husband, Albert, a 91-year-old Air Force veteran.
Albert Shew used a wheelchair, and his restricted mobility likely made it more difficult for him to evacuate from the house when the fire started.
The fire was fully contained by 2:30 p.m. according to the San Francisco Fire Department, but they were unable to save Shew.
