Caltrans is closing one to two far right lanes on the westbound side of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on weeknights.
Traffic from the East Bay into San Francisco tends to peak at 5 a.m. with about 9,000 average toll tags on weekdays, but by the time the lane closure begins, about half as many drivers are on the bridge.
The construction zone will require drivers to slow to 40 mph, and California Highway Patrol will enforce the speed limit.
Maintenance of the bridge is required every two years, with the last inspection for the western span conducted in December 2022.
