"But over the past two weeks, the Giants have miraculously brought themselves back from the dead. Since the loss in Milwaukee, the team has won 10 of 11 games, clawing back above .500 and somewhat firmly into the postseason race. As of Friday afternoon, the Giants sit four games back of the New York Mets for the National League's third wild-card spot. They've jumped three teams in the standings during that span."
"The Giants have improved their standing thanks to an offensive explosion from the middle of their order. Over the past 15 days, Matt Chapman has hit .286 with 4 home runs, Willy Adames has hit .333 with 7 home runs and reigning NL Player of the Week Rafael Devers has batted .347 with 6 homers. Human energizer bunny Drew Gilbert has also added a much needed spark."
On Aug. 22 the San Francisco Giants were seven games under .500 after a 5-4 walk-off loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, leaving the season in jeopardy. Since that loss the Giants have won 10 of 11 games, rising above .500 and moving into the wild-card conversation, now four games behind the New York Mets for the third National League wild-card spot. Baseball Reference raised the Giants' postseason probability from 1.4% on Aug. 25 to 11.7%. The surge has been fueled by offensive production from Matt Chapman, Willy Adames, Rafael Devers and Drew Gilbert. The Giants still face long odds, have virtually no chance to win the NL West, and will need to sustain their hot pace while hoping the Padres or Mets falter to reach the postseason, but they will play meaningful games in September.
