2024 player review Filip Zadina: Gamble didn't pay off
Briefly

Last summer, the forward walked away from a guaranteed two-year contract worth more than $4.5 million with the Detroit Red Wings for the opportunity to prove that he was a better player. He signed a one-year deal with the San Jose Sharks, aiming for more playing time to prove his detractors wrong.
Zadina had 23 points in 72 games, not meeting his goal of becoming a top-six forward with power play upside. Despite some initial opportunities, his lack of defensive reliability hindered his progress.
Zadina struggled with defense overshadowing his offensive contributions. Good defense can lead to scoring chances, but poor defense limits attacking capabilities, as shown in his regularized-adjusted plus-minus (RAPM) from Evolving-Hockey.
