The Milpitas basketball team has made history by reaching the state playoffs for the first time in school history. They secured a thrilling 68-67 overtime victory over Woodcreek in a packed gym. Senior Jacob Wrencher led the scoring with 22 points, showcasing the team's resilience as they overcame several lead changes throughout the game. Despite being outshot on free throws, Milpitas maintained composure, particularly in overtime, scoring the first five points and securing their spot in the upcoming quarterfinal at home against Clovis East.
“Instead of momentum swinging to Woodcreek in overtime, Milpitas shrugged off the empty possession at the end of regulation and scored the first five points of OT.”
“We're just trying to put Milpitas on the map in terms of basketball,” said 6-foot-6 senior Jacob Wrencher, who led the way Tuesday with 22 points.
