Boeing warns SLS staff that cuts could be on the way
Briefly

Boeing has alerted staff about the possible elimination of around 400 jobs as a consequence of potential revisions or cancellation of the Artemis program. The company has faced challenges in its contributions to NASA's Space Launch System (SLS), with ongoing development delays and rising costs. While the SLS is currently the only operational means to send astronauts to the Moon, the U.S. administration is focused on cost reductions, potentially impacting the future of the program. Boeing is seeking to redeploy employees to mitigate job losses amid these changes.
To align with revisions to the Artemis program and cost expectations, we informed our Space Launch Systems team of the potential for approximately 400 fewer positions by April 2025.
We are working with our customer and seeking opportunities to redeploy employees across our company to minimize job losses and retain our talented teammates.
It is not hard to imagine Musk taking a look at the Artemis program and the SLS and thinking, 'That can definitely go.'
