Qualcomm has acquired the generative AI division of VinAI, an AI research firm founded by former DeepMind scientist Hung Bui. This move is part of Qualcomm's broader strategy to expand its presence in the AI tooling sector. VinAI specializes in generative AI technologies, including computer vision and language models, and focuses heavily on automotive applications. With around 200 employees, VinAI aims to enhance Qualcomm's capabilities across various product families, particularly in smartphones and vehicles. VinAI's CEO Hung Bui will also join Qualcomm post-acquisition, further enriching the company’s talent pool.
