"Originally scheduled to open its lifts on Nov. 26, Palisades Tahoe announced in a Sunday afternoon blog post that the resort will have to open on a later date due to "limited natural snowfall and short, inconsistent windows for snowmaking." Last week's early-season storm brought only light snowfall, the resort said, and the weather conditions needed to maintain a reliable snow base - even an artificial one - are simply not present."
"Most of Tahoe's ski resorts are closed, according to the Lake Tahoe Snow Report, though several have their opening dates listed as the day after Thanksgiving. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, which has the highest elevation of any resort in the basin, opened its lifts on Friday after delaying its opening day for several weeks due to unexpectedly warm weather. Heavenly Mountain Resort opened its lifts on Monday. The resorts are currently the only two with open lifts in the Tahoe area."
Palisades Tahoe delayed its scheduled Nov. 26 lift opening because of limited natural snowfall and inconsistent windows for snowmaking. A recent early-season storm produced only light snow, and current weather cannot sustain a reliable natural or artificial snow base. High humidity and the absence of sustained wet-bulb temperatures are preventing effective snowmaking operations. Most Lake Tahoe resorts remain closed, with Mt. Rose and Heavenly the only ones currently operating. Palisades has not announced a new opening date; its snowmaking crew is on 24/7 standby awaiting colder conditions. The National Weather Service forecasts no significant snowfall in the near term.
