These 3 Areas Are Still Open For Skiing and Snowboarding

Memorial Day Weekend is usually associated with warm-weather activities, but six ski areas stayed open for part of the 3-day period. Three of those areas have since closed, leaving three open ski areas across the United States for at least a few more days. Mammoth Mountain in California is scheduled to close on Sunday, May 31, extending California’s longest ski season but not beyond May. Timberline Lodge in Oregon is nearing the end of its winter/spring season while summer skiing on Mount Hood is about to begin, typically running from June through August. Beartooth Basin Ski Area in Wyoming opened for the public on May 25 and operates seven days a week, with terrain accessed by two high-speed platter lifts, with a likely mid-June closure.

"As the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day Weekend is typically spent by the water, grilling, hiking, or generally enjoying the sunny warm weather. But 6 ski areas managed to be open for at least a portion of the 3-day weekend, letting the diehard skiers and snowboarders keep their season going rather than concede to the heat. Sadly 3 of those six areas are now closed, but there's still 3 open areas across the United States, at least for a few more days."

"Mammoth Mountain, California - Mammoth Mountain pretty much always holds on to the longest ski season in California, and this season is no different. Previous winters have seen the resort cruise into June or later, but this season sadly won't make it past May. Mammoth's closing day is set for Sunday, May 31st, so make sure you get out there for a few more spring laps while you still can."

"Timberline Lodge, Oregon - The primary winter/spring ski season at Timberline Lodge is nearly wrapped up, but summer skiing on Mt. Hood is just about to get going. Timberline Lodge offers skiing and snowboarding for training athletes and recreators alike, with the Palmer Lift serving camps, racers, and freestyle riders from around the world. The summer season typically runs from June through August."

"Beartooth Basin Ski Area, Wyoming - The only summer-only ski area in the United States officially started spinning their lifts for the public on Monday, May 25th, opening just in time for the long weekend. Beartooth Basin is open 7 days a week with terrain accessed by two high-speed platter lifts. There's a good chance they'll close again my mid-June, so make sure you get out there while you can."
