"First of all, I wasn't asked [to come back]. It was a conscious decision of mine to no longer be part of the national team and to retire from international football. So that's not even an option for me."
"I had a very successful and enjoyable time, and I'm not thinking at all about whether or how Manuel Neuer [sic] might return to the national team. The EUROs at home was a nice ending. I think I've gained a lot from German football and maybe also given a little something to German football."
Manuel Neuer has reaffirmed that he will not return to the German national team, stating he was not asked and consciously retired from international football. Neuer is 39 and says the EUROs at home provided a fitting end to his international career. The German team lost Neuer to retirement and Marc-Andre ter Stegen to injury, leaving Oliver Baumann as the experienced deputy. Neuer said he had a successful and enjoyable time with Germany, that he is not considering a comeback, and that he believes he both gained from and contributed to German football.
