Spanish referee José Luis Munuera Montero has been exonerated from accusations of conflict of interest by the RFEF following a probe into his co-ownership of a sports consultancy. The investigation was initiated after Munuera faced backlash, including threats and insults, after issuing a red card to Jude Bellingham. The RFEF concluded there was no conflict between his refereeing duties and business activities. Munuera denied any illegal activity, asserting that his company had not invoiced any sports entity, and threatened legal action against media scrutiny.
Munuera denied any wrongdoing on Tuesday and said his company had not invoiced any sports entity since its creation and threatened legal action against media.
RFEF's Regulatory Compliance Department has concluded that there is no real or potential conflict in the business activities of the referee with his work as a First Division referee.
Following the study, analysis and detailed verification of the commercial activities, RFEF stated that there is no reason to justify disciplinary measures against Munuera.
Consequently, the RFEF concluded that no further action would be taken against the 41-year-old official.
