John Eustace has transitioned from leading Blackburn Rovers in a Premier League promotion chase to taking on the daunting relegation battle with Derby County. He expressed optimism about his commitment to the Rams and feels they have crucial "14 cup finals" to stabilize their position. Despite acknowledging the perceived risks, he emphasized that this opportunity allows him to pursue long-term success. Eustace's return to Derby, where he previously ended his playing career, was highly influenced by owner David Clowes, establishing a strong ambition to uplift the club.
When asked if he could see why people would view his move as a "huge risk", Eustace replied: "Yeah, [and] they are probably right. But the reason I have done it is that this is something I want to be part of."
I was buzzing they won last night; it was a fantastic result, and I really hope Blackburn get promoted through the play-offs. I left the club in a better position than when I came; they were fighting relegation, and I've left and they are in the top six.
Eustace's first match in charge of Derby will be Friday night at Queens Park Rangers, a club where he worked as an assistant coach for four years and had a spell as interim boss.
Eustace spoke about how Rams owner David Clowes had been instrumental in convincing him to make the move back to a club where he ended his playing career a decade ago.
