Lisa Benn, 34, a Women's Super League official, alleges harassment and loss of international referee status after lodging a complaint. Benn alleges Professional Game Match Officials Limited coach Steve Child forcefully pushed her onto the pitch during a March 29, 2023 VAR training event and told her "your card has been marked." A PGMOL investigation found Child's conduct did not meet the threshold for disciplinary action. Benn alleges PGMOL leaders initially said she would not be punished, but that subsequent recommendations were lower, costing her a place on FIFA's international referee list.
