Former Premier League referee David Coote pleads guilty to making indecent image of a child
"The ex-match official appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday in connection with an allegation relating to a category A video, the most serious kind, recovered by officers in February."
"You have pleaded guilty to a serious matter. Whether this means custody or not will be decided when all the information is before the court, which is why I have ordered a pre-sentence report."
"In January, Coote came out as gay in an interview with The Sun and said a lifelong struggle to hide his sexuality had contributed to the rant about Klopp."
Coote, aged 43, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court in relation to an allegation tied to a category A video recovered by officers in February. He wore a navy suit and black tie and spoke only to confirm his name and enter his plea before Judge Nirmal Shant KC. Judge Shant granted conditional bail and ordered Coote to appear again on December 11. A pre-sentence report was ordered before sentencing. Coote was sacked by Professional Game Match Officials Limited in December after footage of 2020 comments about ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp emerged. The FA suspended him for eight weeks in August. In January Coote publicly came out as gay and linked a lifelong struggle to hide his sexuality to the Klopp rant.
