Alexander Isak completed a British-record £125m move to Liverpool on a six-year deal on deadline day. An earlier £110m bid had been rejected by Newcastle, and Isak refused to play to try to force a move, citing broken promises about a transfer. Newcastle signed Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa to fill the vacancy. Isak made 109 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 62 goals and providing 10 assists, and scored the winning goal in the EFL Cup final to end a 70-year trophy drought. Liverpool’s summer spending surpassed £400m with Isak’s arrival.
I want to express my gratitude to my team-mates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together,
Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs. It has been an honour to be part of the journey from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in 70 years.
Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.
