Luis Rubiales found guilty of sexual assault for World Cup kiss
Briefly

Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish football federation, was convicted of sexual assault after forcibly kissing player Jennifer Hermoso during the 2023 World Cup celebrations. He received a fine of €10,800 and a year-long ban from communicating with Hermoso. Rubiales and several colleagues were acquitted of coercion charges, despite accusations of pressuring Hermoso to say the kiss was consensual. The incident, which Hermoso described as tarnishing her victory, led to widespread calls for Rubiales' resignation and resulted in a three-year ban from FIFA.
Hermoso gave evidence earlier this month and said Rubiales' actions had "stained one of the happiest days of my life".
In October 2023 a FIFA Disciplinary Committee banned Rubiales from engaging in any football activities for three years.
