Marc Guehi remained at Crystal Palace after a Deadline Day transfer to Liverpool collapsed because Palace could not secure a suitable replacement. Liverpool had engaged in advanced talks over a £35 million fee for the 25-year-old captain. Guehi’s contract expires in summer 2026, enabling him to negotiate with foreign clubs from 1 January and sign a pre-contract while finishing the season at Selhurst Park. Barcelona and Real Madrid are monitoring the situation as potential destinations. Liverpool could revive interest if Guehi becomes a free agent, particularly with Ibrahima Konate entering the final year of his contract. Guehi continued to lead Palace professionally after the transfer breakdown.
With his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2026, the England international will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1, provided no new extension is agreed with Palace. This means he could sign a pre-contract agreement while continuing to play out the season in South London before completing a high-profile switch abroad next summer.
Real Madrid are also in the market for a new centre-back as they look to build long-term depth in defense and have identified Guehi as a strong candidate. Liverpool, meanwhile, may yet revisit their interest in the England international. With Ibrahima Konate entering the final year of his contract next summer, there is speculation that manager Arne Slot could push for Guehi once more, especially if he becomes available on a free transfer.
