"We have a group of players that we believe in very much and want to create new opportunities for them to deliver. We believe that this team can make it to the World Cup if the chance for the playoffs exists in March. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jon. Sweden dismissed head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson after a 1-0 defeat to Kosovo that left World Cup hopes hanging. Tomasson became the first man ever to be sacked by the Swedish national setup following a poor qualifying campaign. The team have taken one point from four games and sit bottom of Group B. The association cited insufficient results and the need for new leadership to maximise the chance of reaching a playoff in March. The FA expressed belief in the current player group and gratitude to Tomasson.
