Shira Hoffer, a senior at college, founded the Hotline for Israel/Palestine to foster dialogue around the Israel-Gaza conflict following recent terror attacks. Drawing from family discussions on conflict resolution, she aims to provide accurate information and nurture inquiries to combat close-mindedness. With over 300 questions answered by volunteers, Hoffer established the Institute for Multipartisan Education to help facilitate constructive disagreement in schools. A fellowship for college students to promote civil discourse will also launch, emphasizing the importance of understanding and bridge-building in discussions on divisive issues.
"Some people told me, 'You're platforming the enemy,' and others would say, 'You're supporting genocide.' People had a lot of questions, and we need to nurture those questions..."
"Humanizing, understanding, and bridge-building are not possible without acknowledging different perspectives and exploring the range of opinions available in difficult discussions."
