Elon Musk's recent foray into political campaigning, including attempts to influence a Wisconsin Supreme Court election with monetary incentives, has reignited public discourse on the ethics of billionaires in democracy. Critics argue that allowing billionaires to wield such power undermines the democratic process, with many expressing discomfort over the notion of wealth equating to political influence. Social media reactions reveal a growing concern that a society with extreme wealth concentration poses ethical dilemmas regarding fairness and the integrity of elections.
I don't think some people understand how much a billion is. If you made a million dollars a year you would have to work for one thousand years to get 1 billion.
Billionaires should not be able to buy elections.
The problem with this argument is that most modern billionaires gained their wealth by starting companies with a majority share, which then exploded in value.
