TikTok is introducing a new community notes feature called Footnotes to provide additional context for its short videos, while continuing to collaborate with professional fact-checkers from accredited organizations. This initiative aims to enhance user engagement by allowing select users to contribute comments that will improve the effectiveness of the system. Amid concerns about content moderation and brand safety, especially in light of similar moves by Meta, TikTok emphasizes its commitment to accuracy and trustworthiness while addressing broader national security and user data management issues.
"The more footnotes get written and rated on different topics, the smarter and more effective the system becomes," Adam Presser, TikTok's trust and safety head, stated.
TikTok will continue to work with 20 International Fact-Checking Network-accredited organizations to judge the accuracy of content on its platform.
