""Five years from now, we'll have more engineers working for our company than we do today," Cannon-Brookes said."
""They will be more efficient, but technology creation is not output-bound.""
""Maybe crap ideas, maybe good ideas," he said. "I like to be an optimist and think we will end up with far more technology, firstly, and secondly, far better technology.""
""There's a good chance that those graduates come in with a different view on what it means to be a software developer and shake up the existing world of talent in a positive way for my business," he said."
Atlassian expects higher engineering headcount over the next five years as continuous technology creation produces new ideas that require developers to build. Increased individual engineer efficiency will not eliminate the need for more engineers because technology creation is not output-bound. The company is hiring more new computer-science graduates this year than in the previous two years to expand research, development, and engineering teams. Atlassian reported 13,813 full-time employees as of June, about 14% more than a year earlier. Wider use of vibe coding tools by non-engineers does not remove demand for software engineering roles.
