AI tools are being rapidly adopted within the IT sector, with AI-generated code making up 20-30% of Microsoft's repositories. The proportion of developers using AI tools rose from 44% to 62% in one year, indicating significant industry shifts. Gregor Stewart from SentinelOne noted that AI provides significant efficiencies in coding and cybersecurity. Despite initial resistance from some developers, particularly those accustomed to manual coding, the advantages of AI tools are increasingly recognized, enhancing developer effectiveness without replacing jobs.
"We saw early on that AI could deliver economies of scale for cybersecurity professionals that could not otherwise be reached," says Gregor Stewart, VP of AI and machine learning at SentinelOne.
"Because we code everything from scratch, some of our most gifted developers resisted AI tools, until very recently. There is a certain degree of human resistance to change."
