Private spacecraft Blue Ghost makes successful upright moon landing
Briefly

Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost Mission 1 has made history by being the second private mission to successfully land on the moon, and notably, the first to do so in an upright position. The landing occurred at 8.34am GMT, near the volcanic Mons Latreille, showcasing the company's precision as it touched down within 100 meters of its target. This achievement contrasts sharply with Intuitive Machines' initial lunar landing in February 2024, which resulted in an overturned spacecraft. Blue Ghost is part of NASA's $2.6bn initiative to support the Artemis program and advance lunar exploration.
The mission control team's jubilant reaction was palpable, echoing the significance of Blue Ghost landing upright, a feat not achieved by its predecessor.
Our mission demonstrates the capability of private enterprises to contribute to lunar exploration, complementing NASA's Artemis program and pushing the boundaries of space technology.
